Basketball Court Structure
The Brief
Gorilla Rush approached Versatile Structures to deliver a fully engineered and custom shade solution over a new outdoor basketball court at a private property in Bridgeman Downs. The objective: protect players from the harsh Queensland sun while creating a professional-grade environment suitable for training and competitive play.
The Challenge
Designing a large-scale structure (approx. 678m²) that not only complements the court’s layout but also complies with strict engineering standards was no small feat. Additional challenges included coordinating installation with other contractors (DreamCourts and AirVolt), managing delivery logistics for structural steel, and working around the site’s accessibility and construction timeline.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a 33.2m x 20.4m barrel vault structure, engineered to withstand the region’s wind conditions. The structure was designed with Monotec 370 fabric, offering a 15-year manufacturer’s warranty and stitched with Tenara PTFE thread—ensuring long-term durability.
The steelwork featured a 4-stage Dulux powder coat system, designed for longevity in Brisbane’s climate, and all tensioning components were made from marine-grade 316 stainless steel. Design and engineering were completed in close collaboration with the client’s team to ensure exact court placement, while cleats were integrated into the frame for future lighting installation.
The Outcome
The project was delivered professionally and punctually, meeting all stakeholder expectations. The completed shade structure not only enhances the aesthetic and usability of the court but also underscores our commitment to quality, communication, and long-term performance.
